VELUX Energy and Indoor Climate Visualizer is used to evaluate the performance of single-family houses with respect to energy, ventilation and indoor climate. It is intuitive to use and can be used by anyone with moderate to basic knowledge of building technology. It is based on a recognised and validated simulation engine to provide accurate and reliable results.

VELUX Energy and Indoor Climate Visualizer focuses on windows and solar shading and their effects on the energy consumption for heating, ventilation, cooling and lighting. It has flexible control options for natural ventilation and solar shading.

Besides energy demands, other output includes ventilation rates for the building and each individual window as well as the air temperature in the building through the year. Based on the actual daylight availability in the house, the electricity consumption for lighting is calculated. The airflow through windows can be animated.

DesignBuilder is a software tool for creating and assessing building designs.It has been specially developed so it can be used effectively at any stage of the design process. From the concept stages where just a few parameters are needed to capture the building design to much more detailed building models for established designs.

DesignBuilder uses the latest Energy Plus simulation engine to calculate the energy performance of the building. Output data may be selectively graphed or exported in table format for use in other applications.

TRNSYS TRaNsient SYstem Simulation Program

TRNSYS

TRNSYS is a transient systems simulation program with a modular structure. It recognizes a system description language in which the user specifies the components that constitute the system and the manner in which they are connected. The TRNSYS library includes many of the components commonly found in thermal and electrical energy systems, as well as component routines to handle input of weather data or other time-dependent forcing functions and output of simulation results. The modular nature of TRNSYS gives the program tremendous flexibility, and facilitates the addition to the program of mathematical models not included in the standard TRNSYS library. TRNSYS is well suited to detailed analyses of any system whose behaviour is dependent on the passage of time. TRNSYS has become reference software for researchers and engineers around the world. Capable of performing dynamic thermal simulation for the world’s largest and most complex buildings, Tas allows designers to accurately predict energy consumption, CO2 emissions, operating costs and occupant comfort.  The Tas suite allows full automation available through visual basic. This enables quick parametric simulations to be carried out and allows you to make any changes to the model, export, simulate or extract results from any application within the Tas suite.

IES Virtual Environment

The IES Virtual Environment (IESVE) is a powerful, in-depth suite of building performance analysis tools. It allows the design and operation of comfortable buildings that consume significantly less energy. Whether working on a new build or renovation project, the VE allows designers to test different options, identify best passive solutions, compare low-carbon & renewable technologies, and draw conclusions on energy use, CO2 emissions, occupant comfort, and much more.

There are various tools in the suite; each designed to provide sustainable analysis at levels suitable for different design team members and design stages. All utilise our Apache dynamic thermal simulation engine, and an integrated central data model, which has direct links to SketchUp™, Revit® or Trelligence™, and gbXML, IFC & dxf imports.

VE-Pro is our most comprehensive and detailed toolset. The central data model allows all analysis to be undertaken in an integrated manner, so results can be easily shared amongst applications to further inform and refine simulations. Giving a truly whole building perspective, VE-Pro offers a flexible choice of modules across: Energy, Carbon, Thermal, Solar, Daylight, Light, CFD, Bulk airflow, HVAC, Climate, Egress, Ingress, Value, Cost, and Low Carbon/Renewable strategies.

The VE-Navigators are region specific tools which address Global Rating System and Regulation requirements. They provide a robust and detailed step-by-step structured workflow alongside in-built QA functionality. VE-Navigators for LEED, ASHRAE 90.1 (LEED Energy), LEED-India, BREEAM, Green Star, Green Mark, New Zealand Compliance and UK Compliance tools are currently available.

VE-Gaia is IES’ architectural analysis tool. Its step-by-step workflow system demystifies simulation and allows users to progress from earlier ballpark comparisons into detailed early-stage calculations across: Climate, Bioclimate, Natural resource availability, Building & material characteristics, Solar Shading, Water reduction, Daylighting, Energy, Carbon, Heating/cooling loads, and Potential efficient & renewable technologies. Users can input and manipulate standard data sets or specific building data within the central integrated model.

All IESVE tools integrate easily – for example VE-Gaia users can easily add VE-Pro modules or the VE Navigators for LEED or BREEAM.

IDA ICE Indoor Climate and Energy

IDA Indoor Climate and Energy (IDA ICE) is an innovative and trusted whole-year detailed and dynamic multi-zone simulation application for study of thermal indoor climate as well as the energy consumption of the entire building. The physical models of IDA ICE reflect the latest research and best models available, and the computed results compare well with measured data. While serving a global market, IDA ICE is adapted to local languages and requirements (climate data, standards, special systems, special reports, product and material data).

The user interface is designed to make it easy to build and simulate simple cases, but also to offer the advanced user full flexibility. You can refine your model in steps, while always providing both 3D graphical and tabular feedback. You work in a single program and may jump back and forth between tasks. IDA ICE can import all common 2D and 3D CAD files. It supports IFC BIM models, generated by, e.g. ArchiCAD, Revit, AutoCAD ADT, MagiCAD and many other tools. Equation based modelling, using the Neutral Model Format (NMF), makes it straight-forward to quickly expand the software with new modelling capabilities, either by our in-house development team or by the experienced user. The newly created component models can also easily be shared with colleagues. IDA ICE is not a black box. We do not ask you to trust our secret model. Every underlying equation can be browsed, and every variable can be logged. For a single zone, this means that about a thousand temperatures, heat fluxes, CO2-levels, control signals and other variables can be inspected by the critical user.

See how much energy and money and carbon you can save by making various design or remodeling changes to your home with this free  easy-to-use program. You can draw in the floor plan of your own house, then click and drag your windows to their correct location. You can select from lists of typical wall and roof construction. For advanced users there are more detailed design data input options and output display graphics from the original Solar-5. HEED self installs as a stand-alone program on everything from Windows XP or later and Macintosh OS X 10.6 or later. HEED also runs in Spanish.
